What is CBD?
CBD is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940. It is one of some 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants. As of 2018, preliminary clinical research on cannabidiol included studies of anxiety, cognition, movement disorders, and pain. It has been used to help relieve pain and for its anti-inflammatory properties, but it has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat any of these conditions yet
Why PCR?
PCR stands for phytocannabinoid-rich (PCR) hemp oil. The reason for this is because our products are Full Spectrum and include all of the cannabinoids from the plant unlike isolate products that only have CBD. Our products have CBD, Terpenes, CBG, CBC, CBN along with a small amount of THC. (Less than 0.3%).
Is CBD good for my pet?
With how many pet CBD products are available on the market, it is surprising that more research has not been done on its efficacy in pets. While pet owners often report astounding results, many of the benefits reported are still anecdotal.
What we do know is that pets, especially K-9s, have several types of CBD receptors in their bodies. CBD is taken in through CB1 receptors in the muscles, brain, lungs, reproductive system as well as the gastrointestinal track. Pets also have a whole other set of receptors called CB2 receptors, which absorb CBD and other cannabinoids through the spleen, bones, skin and glial cells. Our FAQ section has links to some helpful research on CBD use if you would like to look into this further.
What should I expect and watch for as I give CBD to my pet?
The CBD will start working within 15-30 minutes of taking the product however results won’t be immediate and consistent applications lead to the best results. CBD isn’t a one-time quick fix for any problem and taking it regularly is the best practice.
Personally, we saw results within a week on our own 14-year-old pug's mobility and have gotten hundreds of reports of positive reports from our customers but research proving benefits is still lacking. Hopefully more studies will be done in the near future as restrictions ease on cannabis research.
Why THC and how will it effect my pet?
Since our product is a true Full Spectrum product, it contains all of the cannabinoids present in the plant. We started with a high CBD hemp variety that has a small amount of THC (less than 0.3%), because of this, our product also contains a small amount of THC but one dose it is not enough to create any "high" psychoactive effect. While it is still being studied and is not fully understood why, early research indicates that full spectrum products containing trace amounts of THC are more effective than products that isolate the CBD compound on its own.
